The Mahavir Kmina Corporation, an institution in Colombia that manufactures leg prostheses to provide them free of charge, has achieved in 2017two major official certifications: Good Manufacturing PracticesandImports and Storage. The certificates, granted by the National Institute for Food and Drug Surveillance (INVIMA) of the Republic of Colombia, will raise the Corporation's standards, give it greater status and allow it to develop new agreements with institutions within the Colombian health system.
“These certifications are acknowledgments that provide security and reliability to our beneficiaries and benefactors”, comments Karen Cano, Coordinator of Management Systems of the Corporation and part of the team that has led both certification processes. "For a non-profit institution like this to undertake the task of implementing management systems is a great achievement, it is the large companies that usually do it," he continues.
The accreditations, on the other hand, have been obtained as a response to the legal impositions that arose as a result of resolutions 4002, of 2007, and 2968, of 2015, which forced manufacturers to comply with certain quality criteria to operate in accordance with the law.Today,Mahavir Kmina meets those criteria, therefore, it has the support of INVIMA as a regulatory institution.
In the future, the Corporation intends to be certified in other important aspects of management systems, such as quality, health and safety at work and environmental management. According to Cano, these achievements are not mandatory, but they will further raise the Corporation's standards.
